Over 40% of people 'unconfident about retirement'
Around four in ten people in the UK are unconfident about enjoying a comfortable retirement, according to new research.
The study by Alliance Trust found that while 34 per cent of people in the UK feel they will have a positive life after work, 43 per cent are unsure if they will be able to afford a happy retirement.
Women were found to be less confident than men, while those between 30 and 50 years old are thought to be the most concerned about the future.
Steve Latto, pensions development manager at Alliance Trust, said: "The earlier people start saving for their retirement, the easier it will be for them to be able to accumulate a sufficiently big enough fund.
"While the current economic conditions may tempt people to reduce their pension contributions or even delay starting a pension until 'better times', this approach should be considered carefully."
Recent research by GE Money Home Lending found that just 27 per cent of people are sure that their savings will get them through life after work.
